Furnace Repair in Lewes, DE

When winter arrives, we turn on the furnace after many months of not using it. It can be incredibly frustrating to turn it on and discover that it’s only blowing cold air right when you need it to warm up your space. If your furnace is blowing cold air, it could be due to one of the following reasons.

1. Furnace Is Warming Up

A furnace is like a hot water faucet. When you turn on the faucet, cold water comes out first. The same happens with your furnace. If you turn on your unit and warm air takes a few minutes to come out, that’s normal because the system takes a bit of time to warm up.

2. Incorrect Settings on Your Thermostat

If your furnace is blowing out a constant flow of cool air, you can check the thermostat fan settings to see if it’s set to ON or AUTO. If it’s set to ON, then the fan will continuously run even when air isn’t heated.

3. A Dirty Flame Sensor

Furnaces with pilotless ignition features have a flame sensor that keeps your furnace burning when it’s turned on. When dirt covers the sensor, your heater turns on and starts heating, but it gets cold shortly after.

4. Clogged Air Filter

When air filters are clogged, they may restrict the flow of air, which makes your furnace run for a long time and overheat. When a furnace is overheated, it only blows out cold air.

5. Clogged Condensate Line

Some furnaces that are high-efficiency have condensate lines that lead water outdoors. When the condensate line clogs, it stops ignition in your unit; hence, only cold air comes out.
